Memorial Day Ceremony

On Sunday, the Vietnam Veterans of America sponsored a ceremony at the Memorial in Chesterton. The keynote speaker was Ted Uzelac, a Portage police officer and veteran of the war in Iraq. He spoke about the origins of Memorial Day, formerly called Decoration Day. It was established in 1868 as a day to decorate the graves of fallen civil war soldiers.

Our Trip to Spain (not!) Spanish Restaurant

Valparaiso boasts of having the only Spanish restaurant in Indiana. We went for lunch and it was awesome! I'd been there years ago and wasn't impressed but I don't know why. This time it was beautiful, the food was incredible, the owner so friendly (he gave Maya a popsicle!). I had gazpacho, one of my favorites. Maya had Orangina. We grownups had a pitcher of Sangria. We listened to Spanish music and enjoyed the ambiance.

Happy Birthday, Grandma!

Grandma wanted to celebrate her birthday on Mother's Day, but we couldn't let the day go by without some cake! Happy Birthday, Mom!

PERFECT Day

We had perfect weather - Yippppeeeeeee, it's spring!

The grass is so green and the sun is so bright. Nate came over to play with Maya and they had a blast. Liz and Char joined us for an impromptu hot dog picnic.....ah, what a perfect day.
